UE Wonderboom Review – The best waterproof bluetooth speaker?
Ultimate Ears (UE) Wonderboom Review:
Ultimate Ears has (UE) been making a name for itself as having a lineup of some of the best Bluetooth speakers on the market, and our UE Wonderboom review shows that this is yet another solid example. Big sound, great battery life, waterproof and easy pairing with others make this a key speaker to consider if you’re looking to buy a top rated portable wireless speaker –the fact that these recently had a $30 price drop makes it that much more of a great value in a hyper-competitive market (from $55 on Amazon)
Design and Features:
We love the simple clean and rugged design. Approximately the size of two fists, this cute squished barrel design offers a 360-degree speaker setup, with two 40mm active drivers and two 46.1mm X 65.2mm passive radiators, in one of the most rugged designs we’ve seen with an excellent waterproof capability –and it floats! The speaker feels very well made with a great use of drop resistant rubber and plastic bumpers. Pairing is super easy using the app, and joining two of these creates a nice large stereo sound-field for use at a beach or pool when you don’t want to have to pump the volume loud in just one particular spot. The only thing we can’t think of that’s lacking here is a speakerphone capability.
Sound:
The UE Wonderboom sounds great and with surprising power and bass from a small package. Mids and Highs sounded good too, but can get a bit messy at high volumes, and this is where having two really shines. The 360 degree sound does well at ensuring a big listening sweet spot no matter where you’re facing. If you’re not planning on using the UE Wonderboom outdoors, and don’t seed this type of rugged exterior or waterproof capabilities then there is some stiffer competition, but overall we think it’s a very solid performer in the sound category!
The Good:
- Big 360-degree sound
- Waterproof and extremely rugged
- Long battery life Rechargeable 10-hour battery***
- Strong/ long Bluetooth wireless range
- Connect two speakers
- Lots of cool colors
The Bad
- Nothing at this price
- A speakerphone capability would be nice
Conclusion:
If you’re looking for a versatile rugger speaker with great sound that doesn’t break the bank, this ought to be on your shortlist. And if you’re looking for waterproof capabilities this little Wonerboom is going to be tough to beat.
